Dismayed by the failure of his attempted coup during the elections of early 2001 and facing indictment over charges of bribery and bad taste, Mark Shepperd  fled ASVS seeking political asylum at Spacebattles.com. "All I want is roast beef and freedom," he was reported crying out as he jumped the wall. With him went all his fanfics purportedly to be used to sweeten a deal  made with the SB moderators. It is also suspected that Mr. Sheppard took the last of the vintage '79 sheepdip.

Reaction in ASVS was mixed:

However, SB.com might not be the haven that Mr. Sheppard believed it to be. In one of his first posts announcing his defection, his post was modified:

The moderators apparently renegged on their deal with Sheppard upon discovering that the sheepdip was counterfiet. On a related note, just how hospitible SB.com would be was put in doubt as its denizens sounded off about ASVS:

Shortly after this appeared on ASVS, Taco Bell's stock rose 3 1/2 points.
