Janeway Indicted

(ASVS-HN Starfleet HQ) Captain Catherine Janeway of the U.S.S. Voyager has been named as a defendant in a twelve gigaquad indictment issued today by the Chief Prosecutor's office of Starfleet Command. The charges stem from the activities of the ship and crew while in the Delta Quadrant of the galaxy, some seventy thousand light years distant. While many of the crew, particularly the command staff, are named as co-defendants, the indictment focuses sharply on Captain Janeway and the alleged criminal acts carried out at her command.
In a press conference early this morning, Rear Admiral C. Jones discussed the evidence that led to charges being filed. "Starfleet was overjoyed when contact was first established with Voyager a few years ago through an alien communication network. We were able to transmit and receive information with the ship. During a standard review of Voyager's logs by Starfleet Intelligence several entries were flagged and directed to my office for further study. What we discovered was disturbing to say the least. In that one transmission we found numerous violations of protocols not least of which were eight separate and deliberate violations of the Prime Directive, beginning with the destruction of the so-called Caretaker Station which occurred immediately after Voyager's arrival in the Delta Quadrant."
Due to security regulations, the Admiral was unable to elaborate on the specifics of each situation but he did relate on an event which he termed "terrifying". It was included in one of the transmissions obtained through the use of the Midas Array.
"Apparently the crew, after being challenged by an alien (Turei) ship for using an unusual means of transit through sub-space, came upon a planet whose race was in suspended-animation for centuries. Captain Janeway, knowing it was against protocol, revived this race. Though warp capable, these Vaadwaur were less technically advanced than either Voyager or their neighbors (such as the Turei) with whom they had been at war with so long ago. A series of diplomatic failures, which we in the investigation see as the norm with Janeway rather than the exception, led to this race trying to hijack the starship Voyager as an apparent means of survival. The crew of Voyager was able to put down this attempt, but then in it's endeavor to escape, the Captain called down a fleet of Turei ships to attack the Vaadwaur," R. Admiral Jones said visibly incensed, "Only a handful of the Vaadwaur escaped from the planet. These attacking Turei had no intention save the complete destruction of the Vaadwaur. By alerting and directing the Turei to the Vaadwaur, Captain Janeway is accused of collusion to attempted genocide. The sad events that transpired can all be traced to her incompetence."
Voyager and her crew are currently still in the Delta Quadrant and are unaware of the charges being made against them. Communication with Voyager is being strictly controlled and there is no intention of informing them of the indictment. The trial will be held at such a time as when the ship enters Federation space and the crew placed under arrest.
