Sour Grapes
On June 6, 2000 Dr.Curtis Saxton updated his page on Star Destroyers to include the apparent use of "heavy" turbolasers in Return of the Jedi. On his updates page he thanks W. Lampi for pointing this out. But where did W. Lampi come by this information which seemed to have eluded everyone up to this point? An exhaustive investigation to find the earliest reporting of this on the net and newsgroup was launched to find the actual discoveror. The investigation took about two minutes. That's because it was me!
Yes me, dammit! I finally actually contribute something to the arguments that was previously only speculated at and do I get credit for it? Oh, sure, a few people like Edam on the newsgroup might have noticed. But an opputunity to be mentioned on a prestigious site like the Technical Commentaries has passed me by. And what truly sucks is that it's my own fault! I could have sent my obsevations to Saxton or to Wong but I did not. I could have put up a page here about my find but did not. I could have had sex with a hot waitress and I...hey, I'm not a complete idiot; if sex knocks on your door, you answer it.
Anyway, here's the meat of it. It all began on Spacebattles of all places. The usual banter about the lack of on-screen evidence regarding the existance of HTL was bothering me to no end. So I decided to rewatch the battle scenes in Return of the Jedi frame by frame just in case they had been overlooked. I posted what I found on Spacebattles on May 28th and the next day on A.S.V.S.
You might argue that
this may have nothing to do with Mr. W. Lampi. He might have noticed this all on his own
and besides it doesn't really matter who gets credit for it, I should be happy that HTL's
can't be immediatey dismissed as non-canon. Well, to this I simply cover my ears and say,
"La la la la la la la I can't hear you la la la la la la la I can't hear you la
la la...."

Mr. Lampi was kind enough to e-mail me about this on August 8 and it is now clear to me that his finding of HTL evidence was the result of independant research and is therefore rightly due credit for his effort. Please read his letter for further details.
